and what to expect

Informal Recruitment

Informal recruitment at Pitt takes place every fall semester. It’s a more relaxed, casual way to join a sorority. Chapters that participate host their own events (like coffee chats or info sessions) where potential new members (PNMs) can learn more and potentially receive a bid.

Formal Recruitment

Formal recruitment at Pitt takes place every spring semester. It’s a structured, multi-day process coordinated by the Panhellenic Council where potential new members (PNMs) meet with every sorority chapter on campus through a series of themed rounds.

Continuous Open Bidding

(C.O.B)

COB takes place in the fall
or spring, anytime outside of formal recruitment. This is an opportunity for people to explore the idea of joining Panhel outside of the formal recruitment process. It’s often more personal, with small gatherings or 1-on-1 meetings.

Getting Involved

Now that you know more about the recruitment process, here are some of the awesome parts of being involved with Panhel and Greek Life on Pitt’s campus!

Greek Week & Greek Sing

Every spring, sororities and fraternities get paired together as teams for Greek Week. This is a week long event where organizations do a lot to give back to our Oakland community. Throughout the week, participants host events like blood drives, food drives, clothing donations, and other service initiatives that make a real impact. At the end of this week, teams present their Greek Sing performances - a high-energy dance and vocal performance that each team spends months preparing for. It’s one of the most exciting times of the year, bringing the entire Greek Life community together in support, service, and celebration.

Interfraternal Events

Greek Life is very committed to supporting philanthropic causes, and one of the most exciting ways organizations raise funds is through Interfraternal Events. These friendly competitions - including games like capture the flag, soccer, basketball, volleyball, frisbee, and more - bring members from different chapters together for some fun. Interfraternal events are an awesome way to meet people in other organizations, do something fun, and contribute to meaningful causes at the same time.

Philanthropy

If you’re passionate about service, philanthropies are causes that different Greek organizations support. Our sorority proudly supports four main causes: the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD), the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF), the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA), and the Delta Phi Epsilon Education Foundation. Philanthropy events are a great way for members and the broader community to get involved and support organizations that make a real difference.

Social Events

Joining a panhellenic organization is a great way to find a strong and supportive community on campus. You will have so many opportunities to build amazing friendships. From interfraternal events and sisterhood activities to date parties, formals, and alumni gatherings, Greek Life offers countless opportunities to connect and feel a true sense of belonging.
